Do You Need Acne Scar Laser Treatment After Subcision?

Subcision releases fibrous bands that tether some depressed acne scars to deeper tissue. This can improve the lift or shadow of suitable rolling scars, but it does not treat every scar feature. Residual uneven texture, enlarged pores, colour change or sharper-edged scars may require a different approach.

Laser treatment can resurface the skin or encourage remodelling, depending on the technology. It may be discussed after subcision when the skin is fully healed and a clinician identifies a remaining surface or texture concern. The two procedures should not be combined or sequenced without an individual plan.

Attend the planned follow-up so the clinician can assess swelling, firmness, bruising, scar contour and healing. Share any history of prolonged redness, pigment changes, cold sores or raised scars. Avoid judging the final result while the area is still inflamed or tender.

If laser is suggested, ask what specific feature it targets and whether another option would address it more directly. Discuss the device, settings, preparation, sun protection, downtime and how the team will respond to delayed healing. Do not treat skin with active infection or open wounds.

Contact the treating clinic for increasing pain, spreading redness, warmth, pus, fever, worsening swelling or a wound that is not closing. Seek urgent assessment for severe allergic symptoms, heavy bleeding or rapidly worsening facial swelling after a procedure.

Ask which scars were released, what improvement is still expected, and whether laser addresses the remaining problem. Ask when your skin is ready, how your skin type affects pigment risk, what aftercare is needed, and what warning signs should prompt a call.
