Isotretinoin reduces active acne by changing oil-gland activity and inflammation. It does not mean that every person will develop scars, and it does not make laser treatment a routine next step. Some marks fade or soften with time, while depressed scars, raised scars or persistent colour changes may need a separate assessment.

Laser treatment changes the skin surface or stimulates remodelling, depending on the device and settings. Recently treated skin may be more sensitive, so a dermatologist must review your isotretinoin history, skin healing, current acne and scar pattern before recommending a procedure.

Wait for your prescriber to confirm that acne treatment is complete or stable, then book a scar-focused review if the texture still bothers you. Bring the name, dose and dates of your isotretinoin course, plus details of any previous procedures and reactions to treatment.

Ask which scar types are present and whether non-laser options may suit them better.
