Do you need a referral for visa medical screening?

Visa medical screening is an administrative health assessment linked to an immigration application. The approved centre may complete identity checks, a medical history, physical measurements, laboratory tests, chest imaging, or other checks listed in the application instructions. A routine doctor’s referral does not replace the required appointment with an approved provider.

Requirements can differ according to the visa category, destination, age, and immigration authority. Use the instructions attached to your application and confirm that the clinic is authorised for that process.

Book through the channel named in your visa instructions and take your passport or accepted identity document, application details, appointment confirmation, glasses or hearing aids, and relevant medical records. Tell the examining clinician about ongoing treatment, previous surgery, pregnancy, and regular medicines. If the centre asks for a referral or specialist report, obtain that document before the appointment.

A visa examination is not a substitute for care when you are unwell. Arrange medical review for new chest pain, severe breathlessness, fainting, confusion, or rapidly worsening symptoms. If screening identifies an abnormal finding, ask the approved centre what follow-up is required and arrange continuing care with your usual clinician.
