Scalp micropigmentation places small pigment deposits in the scalp to create the visual effect of closely cut hair or added density. It is not a treatment for the underlying cause of hair loss. A referral may not be needed, yet the consultation remains important for checking scalp health, hair-loss pattern, pigment choice, and the design you want.

A provider may recommend medical review before cosmetic work if loss is sudden, patchy, or changing, or if the scalp is inflamed. Existing scars, skin conditions, and previous pigment work can affect the plan.

Ask whether the clinic accepts direct appointments, who performs the procedure, and whether a medical referral is required. Share any scalp diagnosis, medicines, allergies, keloid or raised-scar history, and previous tattoo or micropigmentation work. Ask to see healed examples and discuss how the design will look as your hair changes.

Confirm the hygiene process, aftercare instructions, touch-up approach, and what happens if pigment fades unevenly or the scalp reacts. A consultation should allow you to pause if the proposed design does not match your expectations.
