Do you need a referral for PGT-M?

Preimplantation genetic testing for a monogenic condition looks for a specific inherited gene change in embryos created through in-vitro fertilisation. Before treatment, specialists generally need to understand the family condition and confirm that a suitable test can be designed. Genetic counselling helps you consider limitations, possible results, and reproductive choices.

Ask your gynaecologist, genetic counsellor, primary care doctor, or fertility clinic which service should begin the assessment. Have any family genetic reports available, if you have them. The team may coordinate genetic review, laboratory preparation, fertility assessment, and counselling before treatment is scheduled. Referral planning is not usually urgent, but contact your care team promptly if you are already taking fertility medicines and develop severe pain, heavy bleeding, fainting, fever, or breathing difficulty. Ask where to go after a procedure and which symptoms require emergency care. Do not change prescribed medicines without clinical advice.
