Do you need a referral for a membrane sweep?

A membrane sweep, also called a stretch and sweep, is offered during a pregnancy appointment when the clinician considers it suitable. The clinician uses a vaginal examination to try to separate the membranes near the cervix; consent should be discussed before it is performed.
