Do you need a referral for labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is surgery to alter the labia, the folds of skin around the vaginal opening. A consultation allows a gynaecologist to understand concerns such as rubbing, discomfort during activity, or changes after childbirth. The clinician can examine the area, discuss expected healing, explain possible changes in sensation or appearance, and consider non-surgical options. A referral is a route into care, not a promise that surgery will be recommended.

Ask the provider whether self-referral is available and whether the first visit is with a gynaecologist. Prepare a short history of symptoms, prior vulval procedures, allergies, medicines, and any pregnancy or birth-related changes.
