What should you know about diphtheria vaccine dose?

A dose presents a controlled piece of immune information so the body can build protection. A primary series may be followed by later booster doses because protection can change over time. Combination vaccines can cover diphtheria alongside tetanus and pertussis. The correct product and amount depend on the person and the formulation, so an internet description cannot replace the immunisation record.

Bring the vaccination card or electronic record to the appointment. If records are incomplete, a clinician can review what is known and decide whether catch-up vaccination is appropriate. Do not double a dose because one was missed. Mention a previous serious allergic reaction, immune problem, pregnancy, or acute illness before vaccination. Call emergency services for breathing difficulty, throat or tongue swelling, collapse, or widespread itchy rash after an injection.
