Diphtheria antitoxin is an antibody preparation intended to bind and neutralise diphtheria toxin that is still circulating in the body. It does not remove toxin that has already attached to tissues, so clinicians consider it promptly when diphtheria is suspected. It is not the same as the diphtheria vaccine: vaccination builds future immune protection, while antitoxin is used in an acute clinical situation.
