Short answer

Digital iontophoresis uses a mild current through water to reduce sweating from hands or feet.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How digital iontophoresis works

During treatment, hands or feet rest in shallow trays of water while a device delivers a controlled current. The sensation may feel like tingling or warmth. The process is used for Excessive Sweating, especially when palms or soles are the main problem. It does not remove sweat glands and its effect needs maintenance because sweating can return when sessions stop.

A clinician or device provider can explain the correct current setting, electrode placement, and skin preparation. The equipment matters: an Iontophoresis Device should be used according to its instructions, with intact cables and clean trays.

Preparing for treatment

Remove rings, watches, and other metal jewellery before a session. Cover small cuts with suitable petroleum-based protection if the device instructions allow it, and do not treat over broken or infected skin. Use only the recommended water and current setting. Stop if there is significant pain, burning, dizziness, or a skin reaction, then ask the provider how to adjust the session. People with implanted electrical devices, certain heart conditions, or pregnancy should get individual medical advice before starting.

When to seek care

Arrange medical review for persistent cracking, bleeding, infection, numbness, or a rash that continues after treatment. Seek urgent help for severe chest symptoms, fainting, or a serious allergic reaction, even if these occur away from the treated area. If sweating is widespread, begins suddenly, occurs during sleep, or comes with weight change, fever, palpitations, or weakness, an assessment can look for an underlying cause.

Questions for your doctor

Ask which areas are suitable, how to protect sensitive skin, how often maintenance may be needed, and whether your medicines or medical devices affect eligibility. You can also ask how iontophoresis compares with Botox For Sweating and whether another cause of sweating should be checked.
