What should you know about diastasis recti below navel?

Short answer
Diastasis recti below the navel can affect lower abdominal support and may show as a soft bulge or doming, but a clinician should distinguish it from a hernia or another cause.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Understanding the lower area
The midline connective tissue continues below the navel, and separation can be more noticeable there than higher up. You may see movement of the lower belly when rolling, coughing, or rising, or feel reduced support during lifting. The position and feel of a bulge do not identify its cause on their own. A hernia is a separate problem that can occur near the navel or elsewhere in the abdominal wall.
What to do next
Have the area examined, particularly if the bulge is new, one-sided, painful, or changing. A physiotherapist can assess breathing, pelvic-floor coordination, and the way you transfer load through the trunk. Use slow transitions, exhale through exertion, and reduce tasks that cause pain or marked doming until you have advice. Postnatal physiotherapy may be appropriate when symptoms followed childbirth.
Warning signs
Seek prompt care for increasing pain, redness, a firm tender lump, fever, vomiting, faintness, or a bulge that cannot be gently reduced. Even without these warning signs, arrange review if lower abdominal weakness persists or limits exercise, work, or caring for a child.
Questions for your doctor
Is the lower bulge consistent with diastasis recti? Do I need assessment for a hernia? Which exercises are suitable for my current control? How should I modify lifting and getting out of bed?

Questions people ask
Is separation below the navel different from separation above it?
It involves the same midline support tissue, but its location and effect on movement can differ between people.
Can I check the area myself?
A self-check may describe what you notice, but it cannot reliably distinguish diastasis recti from a hernia.
