A dermaroller has small needles that create controlled punctures in the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a water-attracting substance used in many topical skin products. Applying a suitable product may reduce the dry, tight feeling that can follow needling, but it does not make an unsterile roller or unsuitable formula safe.

A cosmetic serum is not the same as a sterile injectable preparation. Hyaluronic acid injections are delivered by a trained clinician for different purposes and should not be substituted for a dermaroller product. Avoid products containing fragrance, exfoliating acids, retinoids, or other active ingredients immediately after needling unless a clinician has advised them.
