The device uses a light and camera at the tip, while a phone or other display shows an enlarged view. This can help a person or clinician observe wax, redness, swelling, discharge, or a visible eardrum. A picture cannot by itself confirm an ear infection, explain hearing loss, or show every cause of pain. The ear canal is delicate, and a blocked view or poor angle can make an image misleading. The tool is an aid to examination, not a replacement for a trained assessment.

Follow the device instructions, clean the tip as directed, and use only a suitable attachment. Never force the camera into the canal, use it during severe pain, or probe around a suspected perforation, bleeding, or recent ear procedure without medical advice. Do not use an otoscope to remove deeply lodged objects. Save an image only with the person’s permission and share it with a GP or ear specialist alongside symptoms, timing, fever, discharge, hearing change, and dizziness.

Arrange prompt clinical review for significant ear pain, new hearing loss, discharge, bleeding, fever, marked dizziness, swelling behind the ear, or symptoms after an injury. Seek urgent help for severe dizziness with weakness, facial drooping, confusion, or a serious head injury. For a child who is distressed or cannot keep still, stop the home examination and arrange a Child Health Consultation. A GP Consultation can interpret symptoms and decide whether further examination is needed.
