Demodex mites on the arms

Bumps or itching on the arms can result from dry skin, eczema, contact irritation, folliculitis, insect bites, or another inflammatory condition. Demodex is less typical away from areas with many sebaceous follicles, and seeing facial symptoms at the same time does not prove that an arm rash has the same cause.

Note the rash's location, texture, colour, triggers, and timing. New detergent, clothing, plants, heat, shaving, or a skincare product can provide useful clues. Avoid scratching, which can break the skin.

Use a gentle fragrance-free wash, apply a plain moisturiser after bathing, and pause new products on the arms. Wear loose breathable clothing and keep nails short. Do not use mite treatments, essential oils, or steroid creams on a diagnosis-free rash without advice. A clinician can examine the arm and decide whether testing or a targeted treatment is needed.

Make an appointment for a rash that lasts, spreads, repeatedly returns, or causes intense itch. Seek prompt care for fever, severe pain, pus, rapidly increasing warmth or redness, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty.
