What should you know about cystocele repair?

Repair aims to restore support between the bladder and front vaginal wall. Before deciding, clinicians assess symptoms, pelvic support and bladder emptying. Pelvic-floor therapy, constipation care and a fitted pessary may be suitable alternatives. If repair is proposed, discuss the technique, anaesthetic, medicines, lifting limits, bathing, sex and return to work or exercise. Share urinary symptoms, previous pelvic surgery, pregnancy plans and medicines that affect bleeding.

Arrange a pelvic-floor or gynaecology assessment if symptoms affect urination, bowel movements, exercise or intimacy. Keep notes about bulging, pressure, leakage and emptying problems. Pelvic-floor physiotherapy, constipation care and a fitted vaginal pessary may help. Surgery can be discussed when symptoms remain troublesome; the choice depends on findings, health and personal plans.

Seek prompt care if you cannot pass urine, have severe pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, fever, or a protruding area that becomes very sore or swollen. A new or worsening vaginal bulge, repeated urinary infection or worsening bowel difficulty also deserves medical review.
