Crohn's disease: Arabic health information and support

Crohn's disease can affect different parts of the digestive tract and may change over time, with quieter periods and periods of active symptoms. Abdominal pain, diarrhoea, tiredness and reduced appetite are possible presentations, but symptoms vary between people. Having one symptom does not establish Crohn's disease; assessment is needed to consider other explanations as well.

If English is not your preferred language, ask the clinic whether an Arabic interpreter or translated information is available. A trained interpreter can help you describe stool changes, pain, medicines and previous tests accurately.

Before a GP consultation, write down when symptoms began, how often they occur, any blood or mucus noticed, changes in appetite, and medicines or supplements you take. Bring previous reports if available and ask for the plan to be explained in the language you understand best. A blood test may be part of the assessment, but results are interpreted alongside your symptoms and examination.

Contact a clinician promptly if diarrhoea or pain continues, interrupts sleep, or leaves you struggling to eat and drink. Seek urgent help for severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, a swollen abdomen, faintness, heavy rectal bleeding or signs of dehydration. Request language support when you call so important details are not missed.

You could ask: Could I have an Arabic interpreter? What are the possible causes of my symptoms? Which tests are being considered? What should I do if symptoms worsen? How will I know whether the treatment is helping?
