Crepey Skin Around the Eyes: What to Know

The eyelid and under-eye areas have less natural thickness than many other facial regions, so fine lines may become visible sooner. Repeated squinting, ultraviolet exposure, dehydration, irritation, and changes in collagen and elastin can make the surface look crinkled. Creams cannot rebuild every layer of tissue, and a similar texture can sometimes be worsened by eczema or contact irritation.

Use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser and apply moisturiser while the skin is slightly damp. Protect the area from sunlight with shade, sunglasses, and a suitable sunscreen applied carefully around the eyes. Avoid rubbing, harsh scrubs, and introducing several active products together. A dermatologist can assess whether a prescription product or an in-clinic option such as radiofrequency skin tightening is appropriate for your skin and the exact area.

Arrange a clinical review if the change appears quickly, affects one side, becomes itchy or painful, forms a rash, swells, bleeds, or changes colour. Seek prompt eye care for vision changes, marked eye pain, or swelling that interferes with opening the eye. An examination helps separate ordinary texture changes from eyelid inflammation or another condition.
