What should you know about CO2 laser nose pores?

Pores are normal openings for hair follicles and oil glands. On the nose, oil, compacted keratin, dehydration, sun-related texture, and loss of skin firmness can make them appear larger. Small dark dots may be sebaceous filaments rather than dirt, so a laser consultation should begin with a close examination instead of assuming every dot is a pore problem.

CO2 resurfacing removes or heats selected skin layers and can smooth uneven texture. It does not physically close follicle openings, and oil or congestion may remain unless the underlying cause is also managed.

Ask a dermatologist whether a topical retinoid, acne treatment, or gentler resurfacing option should come first. If CO2 laser is considered, discuss fractional versus more extensive resurfacing, the planned depth around the nasal creases, and how the area will be protected during healing.

Use the prescribed gentle cleanser and moisturiser after treatment, avoid squeezing or extracting flaking skin, and shield the nose from sunlight. Do not apply acids, retinoids, fragranced products, or makeup until the clinician says the surface has recovered. Keeping the barrier calm reduces irritation while the new skin forms.

Call the clinic if treated redness spreads, pain intensifies, swelling interferes with breathing through the nose, or you notice pus, fever, increasing warmth, or a worsening rash. Urgent care is appropriate for sudden facial swelling, breathing difficulty, or a severe allergic reaction.

Ask whether the marks are enlarged pores, sebaceous filaments, acne, or another condition; what improvement is realistic; and which setting will be used on the thin, contoured skin of the nose. Also ask about downtime, pigment alteration, cold-sore prevention, and a maintenance plan for oil and congestion.
