What should you know about cloudy urine and kidney stones?

Kidney stones are solid deposits that can irritate the urinary tract as they move. This may cause cloudy urine from crystals or blood, and pain may be felt in the flank or abdomen. Painful urination, nausea, or difficulty passing urine can occur when a stone is near the bladder or obstructs flow. Dehydration can make urine more concentrated and may contribute to crystal formation. Cloudiness with fever or chills raises concern for infection behind an obstruction and needs prompt attention.
