What should you know about clothes to wear after liposuction?

Swelling, tenderness, bruising, dressings, and limited movement can make ordinary clothes difficult after liposuction. Tight waistbands, rough seams, and garments that must be pulled over the treated area may press on incisions or make dressing changes harder. Your surgeon may prescribe a compression garment for a particular body area; its fit and wearing schedule are individual and should not be replaced by improvised shapewear.

Choose soft, breathable layers with front or side openings, such as a loose shirt, wrap, robe, or relaxed trousers. Wear supportive footwear and avoid anything that catches on drains or dressings. Keep garments clean and change them if they become damp or soiled. Put on compression clothing exactly as directed, checking for numbness, colour change, cold skin, or increasing pressure. Your team can explain when normal clothing is comfortable again.

Contact the surgical team promptly for worsening one-sided swelling, severe pain, bleeding, spreading redness, pus, fever, shortness of breath, chest pain, or a garment that causes marked numbness or colour change. Do not loosen or remove prescribed compression for a prolonged period without advice, unless emergency symptoms require immediate help.
