What should you know about a circle of dry skin?

A round patch can be dry, flaky, cracked, itchy, or mildly inflamed. Asteatotic eczema often causes a dry, fissured surface, while atopic dermatitis may itch and recur in sensitive skin. Psoriasis can form a more sharply bordered, thicker scaly plaque. The border, scale, colour, itch, body site, and whether the patch is expanding help distinguish possibilities. A circular edge does not prove that the problem is fungal, and a diagnosis cannot be made from shape alone. Wash with lukewarm water and a gentle fragrance-free cleanser, then apply a thick moisturiser while the skin is still slightly damp. Reapply after washing and avoid scratching, harsh scrubs, fragranced products, and very hot showers. Choose loose, breathable clothing if the patch is in a fold or under friction.
