What should you know about chlorine rash treatment?

A pool-related rash may be irritant contact dermatitis, an eczema flare, heat rash, intertrigo, or an infection that happened to appear after swimming. These problems can need different treatments. Itching and dryness alone often call for gentle skin care, whereas pain, pus, crusting, rings, or continuing spread should not be assumed to be chlorine irritation. A clinician may examine the distribution, surface, and timing before recommending a cream.

Rinse with clean lukewarm water, pat dry, and apply a fragrance-free moisturiser. Remove wet swimwear, reduce rubbing, and pause swimming until the skin is comfortable. Avoid scratching and avoid combining multiple medicated products. A pharmacist or clinician can advise whether a short course of an anti-inflammatory product is suitable; suspected fungal or bacterial infection requires a different plan. Follow directions carefully around the face, folds, and children.

Seek urgent care for breathing difficulty, facial or tongue swelling, faintness, or widespread hives. Seek prompt assessment for fever, increasing warmth, pus, severe tenderness, blistering, peeling, rapidly spreading redness, or eye involvement. Arrange review when the rash lasts despite gentle care, returns after each swim, or requires repeated medication.
