Chicken skin around the eyes: what it may mean

The skin around the eyes is thin and easily irritated. Rough, skin-coloured bumps may be related to keratin collecting around follicles, while red, tender, itchy, or pus-filled bumps can fit follicle inflammation such as folliculitis. Small firm white bumps may have a different cause altogether. Location alone cannot identify the cause.

Cosmetics, rubbing, sweat, contact with hair products, and harsh exfoliants can aggravate the area. A clinician can look at the bump pattern, surface, colour, and nearby symptoms before suggesting treatment.

Wash gently with lukewarm water and a fragrance-free cleanser, then pat dry.
