What should you know about chicken skin allergy symptoms?

Chicken skin usually describes rough, small bumps around hair follicles; itching, redness or swelling can suggest irritation or an allergic reaction, but the bumps alone do not confirm an allergy. The pattern may also reflect dry skin or a common follicular condition. Notice what the skin feels like, where it appears, and whether it started after a new product, fabric, medicine or activity.

Keratosis pilaris causes tiny, sandpaper-like plugs around follicles, often on the upper arms and thighs. It may be more noticeable in dry weather and is often rough rather than intensely itchy. Contact irritation or allergy can bring more sudden itching, redness, warmth, scaling or swelling after exposure to something on the skin.
