Cherry hemangioma or skin rash?

A cherry angioma is usually a discrete red or purple mark that may be smooth or raised. A rash is more often a change across an area, with redness, spots, scaling, bumps, blisters, or itch. [Atopic Dermatitis](/conditions/atopic-dermatitis/) and [Contact Dermatitis](/conditions/contact-dermatitis/) commonly cause itchy or irritated patches.

Heat, skin folds, medicines, infection, or immune-related inflammation can also cause a rash. Examples include [Heat Rash](/conditions/heat-rash/), [Intertrigo](/conditions/intertrigo/), [Drug Rash](/conditions/drug-eruption/), [Ringworm](/conditions/ringworm/), and [Scabies](/conditions/scabies/). The appearance cannot establish the cause by itself.

Map where the rash appears and note its onset, itch, pain, scaling, blisters, new medicines, products, travel, heat, or contact with others who itch. Use gentle skin care and avoid scratching while arranging advice if it persists or spreads.

Do not use steroid, antifungal, or antibiotic creams on an unexplained rash without suitable advice. A clinician may distinguish a single vascular spot from a rash by examining the pattern and skin surface.

Seek urgent help for a rash with breathing difficulty, facial swelling, faintness, blistering, skin peeling, eye or mouth involvement, or rapid widespread progression. Prompt review is also needed with fever, severe pain, pus, or a rapidly expanding warm area.
