Angioedema causes deeper swelling and may affect one or both lips, with or without itchy hives. A bite or pressure from sleeping can leave a focal tender area. Cracking, burning, blisters, crusting, tooth pain, or fever may point toward irritation, a cold sore, dental infection, or another local problem. Overnight puffiness can also be more visible after lying flat, but persistent or worsening swelling deserves review.
