Causes of sneezing and runny nose

Allergic Rhinitis often causes repeated sneezing, an itchy nose, watery eyes and clear discharge after exposure to pollen, dust mites or pets. A Common Cold can bring a blocked or runny nose with sore throat, cough and general tiredness. Influenza and COVID-19 may also cause nasal symptoms, usually alongside broader illness such as fever, aches or marked fatigue. Sinusitis is more suggestive when facial pressure, reduced smell or thick nasal mucus persists or worsens.

Rest, drink fluids and use tissues rather than repeatedly sniffing mucus back. Wash hands, ventilate rooms and avoid smoke, perfume and known allergy triggers. If symptoms follow contact with animals or dusty bedding, reduce exposure and wash bedding regularly.
