Causes of a dry, itchy throat

Allergic rhinitis can cause throat itch through nasal drainage and mouth breathing. House dust mite allergy may produce symptoms that are worse indoors or on waking. A common cold often adds a runny nose, cough or tiredness. Dry air, smoke, fragrance and frequent talking can irritate the throat without an infection. Seek emergency help for throat tightness, swelling of the lips or tongue, wheezing, trouble breathing, faintness or rapidly spreading hives after food.
