Short answer

Sweaty hands and feet often reflect overactive sweat glands, with heat, activity, stress, or illness adding to the moisture.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Understanding the pattern

The palms and soles contain many sweat glands. Primary hyperhidrosis can make these areas sweat excessively even when the body does not need cooling, and emotional situations may intensify it. Damp hands can make writing, gripping, or shaking hands difficult; wet feet may soften skin and cause odor or cracking.

If sweating is new, widespread, occurs during sleep, or started after a medicine change, another cause needs consideration. Excessive Sweating provides a broader description of this symptom. Moist feet can also contribute to Athlete's Foot, although sweating by itself does not prove infection.

Managing wet palms and soles

Keep a soft towel available, dry carefully after washing, and choose breathable socks and shoes. Change damp socks and allow footwear to dry between uses. A clinician may recommend Prescription Antiperspirant for palms or soles; use it exactly as directed because irritated or broken skin may sting.

Iontophoresis can reduce sweating in the hands and feet for some patients by passing a mild current through water. A dermatology team can discuss the treatment schedule, skin precautions, and whether it is appropriate for you.

When to seek care

Book a medical review when sweating disrupts school, work, sleep, footwear, or social contact, or when self-care has not helped. Seek prompt care for sudden heavy sweating with chest discomfort, faintness, confusion, breathing difficulty, fever, or marked weakness. Foot pain, spreading redness, pus, or a wound also needs assessment.

Questions for your doctor

Does the distribution suggest primary hyperhidrosis? Should we review medicines or check for another cause? Which antiperspirant is safe for my palms and soles? Would iontophoresis help, and how should I protect softened skin from fungal irritation?

Questions people ask

Can stress make hands and feet sweat more?

Yes. Emotional triggers can activate sweat glands, although recurrent heavy sweating may still deserve an assessment.

Can sweaty feet mean athlete's foot?

Not by itself. Athlete's foot usually brings skin changes such as scaling, itching, or cracking, which should be examined if present.
