Can rosacea cause spider veins?

Facial spider veins, also called thread veins or telangiectasia, are fine red lines that can branch across the cheeks, nose, or nearby skin. They may become easier to see when rosacea causes frequent flushing or ongoing redness. Facial vessels can also have other causes, including sun exposure, skin sensitivity, or a separate vascular condition, so their appearance alone does not establish rosacea.

A gentle routine can reduce irritation: cleanse without scrubbing, moisturise, use broad-spectrum sun protection, and notice personal triggers such as heat, hot drinks, alcohol, or spicy foods. If vessels remain prominent or bother you, a dermatologist can check the diagnosis and discuss vascular treatments. Treating background rosacea may reduce new flushing, but existing vessels may need a separate approach.

Book an assessment if visible vessels appear suddenly, spread quickly, bleed, become painful, or occur with a new rash or swelling. Seek urgent help for facial swelling with breathing difficulty, faintness, or widespread blistering. A routine review is suitable for stable facial lines when you want to clarify whether rosacea or another cause is involved.
