Bullous Mycosis Fungoides: What to Know

Mycosis fungoides begins in immune cells called T cells within the skin. The bullous form can produce fluid-filled blisters over patches, plaques, or areas that already look inflamed. A blistering rash has many possible explanations, so appearance alone cannot confirm this diagnosis. A dermatologist may examine the skin, review its history, and take a biopsy; additional testing can help characterize the cells and assess whether disease is limited to the skin.

Arrange a dermatology appointment, especially if blisters recur, heal slowly, or arise over longstanding patches. Do not deliberately break blisters. Keep open areas clean and covered with a non-stick dressing, and avoid friction or unapproved creams. Treatment is individualized and may include topical corticosteroids or light-based treatment such as narrowband UVB phototherapy or PUVA Therapy. Your team will balance skin control, wound care, and monitoring.

Seek urgent medical help for rapidly spreading blisters, extensive raw skin, fever, increasing pain, pus, or marked weakness. Blisters involving the eyes, mouth, or genitals need prompt assessment because they can interfere with essential functions. Emergency care is appropriate for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, confusion, or inability to drink.
