Brucellosis signs and symptoms

People with brucellosis may have a fever that rises and settles, chills, low energy, headache, poor appetite, or Night Sweats. Muscle Aches and Joint Pain can be prominent, and a joint may become stiff or swollen. Some people have a longer illness with symptoms that wax and wane. A symptom does not establish the diagnosis: the clinician must weigh its timing, severity, examination findings, and possible exposure to infected animals or unpasteurised products.

Record when fever or sweats occur, which joints hurt, and any animal contact or raw dairy eaten. Arrange a medical appointment if symptoms persist, recur, or interfere with normal activity. The clinician may request a Blood Test and decide whether further evaluation is needed. If brucellosis is confirmed, Antibiotic Treatment should be taken for the prescribed course, with follow-up for response and possible adverse effects. Rest and fluids can support comfort but do not replace assessment.

Seek prompt medical advice when recurring fever, night sweats, or unexplained aches follow a relevant exposure. Use emergency services for confusion, a seizure, fainting, breathing difficulty, severe dehydration, or sudden severe weakness. New neurological symptoms, severe headache with neck stiffness, or a hot, very swollen joint also require urgent assessment.
