What should you know about Bonine for dizziness?

Bonine may help some inner-ear dizziness, but unexplained or severe dizziness needs assessment. It can cause drowsiness and may reduce alertness, so follow the product directions and avoid driving until you know its effect.

Dizziness can mean spinning, imbalance, or feeling faint. Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo often causes brief spinning after a head movement, whereas dehydration, heat exhaustion, low blood sugar, anaemia, or iron-deficiency anaemia can produce lightheadedness. Anxiety and heart-rhythm problems such as atrial fibrillation need a different approach.

Bonine may lessen some symptoms but does not correct dehydration, low glucose, blood loss, or an abnormal rhythm. Recurrent symptoms deserve a cause-focused review.

Sit or lie down when dizzy, rise slowly, and use support to reduce falls. Drink fluids if you have no fluid restriction, and do not skip food if low blood sugar is possible. Check with a pharmacist before combining Bonine with alcohol, sleep medicines, sedatives, or other antihistamines.

Arrange an appointment if episodes recur, follow head movement, affect hearing, or begin after a new medicine. Do not exceed the labelled dose or use it to postpone assessment of unexplained symptoms.

Call emergency services for dizziness with facial drooping, new weakness or numbness, trouble speaking, severe headache, chest pain, fainting, severe breathlessness, or a new irregular heartbeat. Urgent review is also needed after a significant fall or head injury.

Describe whether the room spins or you feel faint, what triggers it, how long episodes last, and whether hearing or neurological symptoms occur. Ask if Bonine is suitable, whether blood pressure, glucose, blood counts, or an ECG should be checked, and what safety plan to follow.
