Treatment for a boil in the armpit with no head

Inflammation can sit deeper under the armpit skin, so a boil may be hard and painful without a visible centre. Friction, shaving, sweat, or an infected follicle can irritate the area. If underarm nodules return in the same or nearby spots, drain, scar, or form connected openings, ask about hidradenitis suppurativa rather than treating each episode as an isolated boil.

Use a clean warm compress for brief sessions and keep the skin gently washed and dry. Reduce rubbing with loose clothing and stop shaving over the lump. Never lance or squeeze it at home.
