What should you know about body scrub for chicken skin?

Chicken skin usually describes small rough bumps, often on the upper arms, thighs, or buttocks. Keratosis pilaris forms when keratin plugs hair follicles. Folliculitis can also create bumps, especially when they are tender, itchy, pus-filled, or centred on hairs. The two conditions need different care, so texture alone cannot confirm the cause.

Choose a mild, non-abrasive cleanser and apply a thick moisturiser soon after bathing. If you use a scrub, select a gentle product, use light pressure, and stop if the skin stings, cracks, or becomes red. Do not pick or squeeze the bumps. A clinician may recommend an emollient with a smoothing ingredient or another treatment when keratosis pilaris is persistent. Shaving and friction can make follicular bumps more noticeable, so use a clean razor and plenty of lubrication if you remove hair.

Arrange an examination if bumps are painful, hot, rapidly spreading, draining, or accompanied by fever. Review is also useful when home care has not helped or when the appearance changes suddenly. A dermatologist can check for folliculitis, keratosis pilaris, eczema, or another skin problem before recommending stronger exfoliation.
