What should you know about blood pressure monitor to wear for 24 hours?

A cuff sits around your upper arm and connects to a small recording unit worn on a belt or strap. The cuff inflates at intervals set by the service, giving a picture of how pressure changes outside a clinic. Results can help distinguish a persistently high pattern from a clinic-only rise, and can show whether pressure falls during sleep. The device measures pressure; it does not diagnose every cause of symptoms.

Wear the monitor for the full period requested and keep the cuff positioned as shown. When it starts inflating, keep your arm still and relaxed if possible. Follow your usual routine unless the clinic gives different instructions, but protect the equipment from water. Note sleep, activity, symptoms and medicine times so the report can be matched with your day. Return the unit promptly and do not alter treatment based on one reading.

Contact the service if the cuff causes severe pain, your arm becomes very swollen or numb, or the device repeatedly fails. Seek urgent help for chest pain, severe breathlessness, fainting, sudden weakness, facial drooping or trouble speaking; do not wait for the monitor report when these symptoms occur.
