Blood pressure and ADHD medication

ADHD medicines can improve attention and reduce impulsivity, but their effects differ between people. A clinician considers existing hypertension, heart rhythm problems, other medicines, caffeine, anxiety, and family history before choosing treatment. Blood pressure changes may occur without noticeable symptoms, while a racing heartbeat, headache, or feeling anxious can be worth reporting.

Take the prescribed dose at the advised time and do not change it or stop it suddenly without guidance. Keep a record of home blood-pressure readings if your clinician recommends this, using the same technique each time. Report new palpitations, chest discomfort, troublesome irritability, sleep problems, or worsening anxiety. A mental health assessment may help confirm the diagnosis and plan care.

Seek emergency care for chest pain, severe breathlessness, fainting, severe headache with neurological changes, or a sustained very rapid or irregular heartbeat. Contact your prescriber promptly if readings repeatedly rise above your usual level or symptoms begin after a dose change.
