Treatment for blood in vomit after drinking alcohol

There is no reliable home remedy for this symptom. Clinicians first check circulation and blood loss, then control the bleeding and treat its cause.

Care is tailored to findings rather than to alcohol use alone. Bleeding may come from inflamed stomach tissue, an ulcer, a tear caused by forceful vomiting, enlarged oesophageal veins, or another abnormal area in the upper digestive tract.

The team may check blood counts and liver function and may examine the oesophagus and stomach with an endoscope. During that procedure, a clinician can sometimes seal, inject, clip, or otherwise control the bleeding area. Fluids, medicines that reduce stomach acid, blood products, or specialist procedures may be used when clinically needed.

Stop alcohol and seek urgent care. Until a medical professional advises otherwise, do not eat or drink because an urgent procedure may be required. Do not take additional aspirin or anti-inflammatory pain medicines to settle discomfort.
