Blepharoplasty and Plasma Pen Treatment

Blepharoplasty removes or repositions selected eyelid skin and sometimes fat through incisions. Plasma pen treatment delivers small arcs of energy near the skin surface, producing pinpoint crusts as treated tissue heals. It may be discussed for mild surface tightening, but it cannot remove a meaningful fold of skin or reproduce surgical fat repositioning.

The eyelids are thin, mobile and close to the eyes. Pigment change, scarring, burns and an uneven result can follow energy treatment, particularly when settings, skin tone or aftercare are unsuitable. Surgery has a different risk profile, including bleeding, infection, dry-eye symptoms, asymmetry and difficulty closing the lids.

Have an in-person eyelid assessment before choosing either approach. The clinician should examine skin excess, brow position, lid support, tear-film symptoms, previous eye procedures, tendency to form raised scars and pigment response after irritation. Tell them about medicines or supplements that affect bleeding and any history of cold sores or abnormal wound healing.

Ask who will perform the procedure, what eye protection will be used and what result is realistic for your anatomy. Follow written instructions about cleansing, prescribed ointment, sun protection and avoiding picking at crusts. Do not combine plasma treatment with surgery during healing unless the operating clinician specifically plans it.

Seek urgent medical assessment for new vision loss, severe eye pain, rapidly increasing swelling, bleeding that does not settle, inability to close the eye, or breathing difficulty. Contact the treating clinic promptly for spreading redness, pus, fever, worsening blisters or skin that becomes dark and increasingly painful. Mild swelling or crusting may occur, but symptoms that intensify rather than ease need review.

Ask whether your concern comes from skin excess, a low brow, eyelid position or volume loss; which option addresses that cause; how your skin tone changes the risk of discoloration; what eye protection and anaesthesia are planned; and how complications would be managed. Request an explanation of where a surgical scar would sit and which changes a plasma pen cannot achieve.
