Iron, bismuth, and dark foods can change its colour, while bleeding higher in the digestive tract may create black, sticky, tar-like stool without discomfort. Possible reasons

Gastritis, Helicobacter Pylori Infection, and Peptic Ulcer can affect the stomach or nearby small intestine and may bleed with few early symptoms. Blood altered by digestion may make stool black instead of visibly red. Other clues can include light-headedness, tiredness, nausea, pale skin, or reduced exercise tolerance.
