Before and after jaw filler

A careful consultation should assess the chin, jaw angles, bite, skin and facial proportions rather than copying another person's photograph. Mild tenderness, bruising and uneven-looking swelling may occur at first, but severe pain or skin and vision changes require urgent action.

Filler adds volume; it does not move bone, correct dental alignment or tighten loose skin. Placement may create a straighter side profile, a clearer jaw angle or smoother transition toward the chin. The appropriate change depends on anatomy and may differ between the two sides.

Before photographs should include front, profile and angled views with a relaxed expression. Right after injection, fluid and tissue swelling can exaggerate projection or disguise contour. A later assessment is more useful once the product and surrounding tissues have settled.

Tell the injector about medicines, supplements, allergies, previous fillers, dental work, cold sores and any current skin infection. Do not stop prescribed medicine without guidance from its prescriber. Choose a qualified clinician who can explain the product, injection plan and response to complications.

After treatment, follow the clinic's instructions and avoid pressing, massaging or trying to reshape the jaw unless specifically directed. Keep cosmetics away from open puncture sites, postpone strenuous heat exposure if advised, and use a wrapped cool pack gently for comfort without applying heavy pressure.

Contact the injector immediately for worsening or disproportionate pain, pale or mottled skin, dusky colour, cool skin, blisters or rapidly increasing swelling. Sudden blurred vision, loss of vision, severe eye pain, weakness or difficulty speaking is an emergency: seek emergency medical care at once and tell them filler was recently injected.

A routine review is appropriate for a persistent lump, troublesome asymmetry, redness that is spreading, discharge or swelling that returns after initially improving. Do not ask an unqualified provider to dissolve or inject through an inflamed area.

Ask which anatomical feature the filler is intended to change, why the selected material suits that location, and how much change can be achieved without looking overfilled. Confirm who provides after-hours help, how vascular problems are managed, when review photographs are taken, and what options exist if the contour is not acceptable after settling.
