A flow cytometry report describes groups of cells according to their measured markers and physical properties. A pathologist or laboratory specialist interprets the pattern alongside the blood count, cell appearance under a microscope, symptoms, and other test findings. An unusual cell population can guide classification or further testing, but the instrument output alone does not supply the full clinical picture.

Results can vary with the specimen type, its condition, the marker panel selected, and the clinical question. Your report may therefore be more informative when the clinician explains why that particular panel was ordered.

Wait for the interpreting clinician to combine the flow cytometry findings with your other results. Ask whether the sample was adequate, what cell population was identified, whether additional laboratory testing is pending, and how the combined findings affect the next decision. Keep the complete report rather than relying on a single marker name or an automated flag.

If cells were obtained through a bone marrow biopsy, follow the care instructions for the collection site. The CytoFLEX S analyzes the sample in the laboratory and does not itself come into contact with you.

Flow cytometry analysis does not create symptoms because it is performed on a collected specimen. After blood collection, seek clinical advice for bleeding that does not settle with firm pressure, worsening swelling, or signs of infection at the needle site. After a bone marrow procedure, use the specific escalation instructions provided by the care team, especially for increasing pain, persistent bleeding, fever, drainage, or spreading redness.

Useful questions include: What specimen was analyzed? Which markers were included? Did the result identify a distinct cell population? How does it compare with microscopy or molecular testing? Are any findings still pending? What decision will the complete result help you make?
