Bags Under the Eyes After Restylane

Restylane is a hyaluronic acid filler, and this material attracts water. Fullness soon after injection may be ordinary tissue swelling or bruising, while a persistent ridge or bag can reflect product sitting too superficially, too much volume for the space, uneven distribution, or fluid collecting around the treated area.

A bluish-grey cast can occur when filler is visible through thin skin. Existing lower-eyelid bags, loose skin, or impaired fluid drainage may become more noticeable after the hollow below them is filled. An in-person examination is needed to distinguish swelling from product-related contour and to check the skin and eye.

Contact the injector, explain when the bags appeared, and send clear photographs if requested. Follow the aftercare instructions you received. A cool clean compress may be suitable for uncomplicated early swelling, but do not press hard, massage, puncture, heat, or try to move the filler unless the treating practitioner specifically directs you.

Management depends on the examination and may include observation, treatment of inflammation, or adjustment of hyaluronic acid filler by a qualified medical practitioner. Dissolving treatment has its own risks and should follow a clinical assessment. Do not add more filler simply to camouflage unexplained swelling.

Seek emergency care immediately for any vision loss, blurred or double vision, severe eye pain, a drooping eyelid with visual symptoms, a severe headache, weakness, or skin that becomes pale, dusky, mottled, or increasingly painful. These are not routine cosmetic concerns after an injection.

Promptly contact the treating clinic for worsening redness, heat, tenderness, discharge, fever, rapidly increasing swelling, or a new firm and painful area. Non-urgent persistent puffiness, asymmetry, discolouration, or a visible ridge also merits a review rather than repeated home manipulation.

Ask whether the finding is expected tissue swelling, retained fluid, visible product, or an underlying eyelid bag. Clarify exactly what was injected and where, whether examination of vision and circulation is needed, what change should trigger emergency care, and what benefits and risks apply to observation or correction.
