What to Know About Bad Chin Filler

Mild swelling, tenderness and bruising soon after an injection can temporarily distort the chin. A result should therefore be judged in context: when it was injected, which material was used, whether symptoms are improving, and whether warning signs are present.

A cosmetic problem may look like asymmetry, an overprojected or broad chin, an unnatural crease, visible edges, or small irregularities under the skin. Some early unevenness comes from swelling rather than the final filler shape. Persistent firmness can reflect product placement, inflammation or a nodule, while increasing warmth, redness, drainage or worsening tenderness can suggest infection.

A blood vessel can become blocked if filler enters or compresses it. This is different from an ordinary aesthetic concern because reduced blood supply can injure skin and nearby tissue. Unusual or escalating pain, pale or dusky skin, a net-like colour change, or cool skin around the chin or lower lip needs immediate assessment.

Contact the treating clinician and describe when the filler was placed, when the problem began, and whether it is stable or changing. Send clear photographs if the clinic requests them, and arrange an in-person examination before pursuing more filler. Keep the product name, treatment date and injection record available, especially if another clinician must assess you.

Do not squeeze, puncture or vigorously massage the area unless the treating clinician gives specific instructions. Management depends on the cause. Observation may be appropriate for settling swelling; infection needs medical treatment; and some unwanted hyaluronic acid filler can be reduced with hyaluronidase. Dissolving is another medical procedure with its own risks, and hyaluronidase does not remove every filler material.

Get immediate medical help for any change in vision, sudden weakness or numbness, facial drooping, difficulty speaking, confusion, severe headache or loss of balance after filler. Also seek emergency assessment for unusual severe pain or skin that turns white, grey, blue or increasingly mottled near the injection area. These features can accompany filler entering a blood vessel and should not wait for a routine appointment.

Arrange prompt same-day clinical advice for spreading redness, increasing warmth, pus, an open wound, fever, or swelling that is worsening rather than settling. Rapid swelling with breathing or swallowing difficulty is an emergency.

Ask which product and amount were injected, where it was placed, and whether the examination suggests swelling, product irregularity, infection or impaired blood flow. If correction is proposed, ask what outcome is realistic, why that approach suits the filler material, what side effects to watch for, and who to contact if symptoms change after you leave.
