Ayurvedic treatment for lichen planus: what to know

Lichen planus can involve the skin, mouth, scalp, nails, or genital area. Treatment depends on the site, severity, symptoms, and whether scarring or tissue damage is developing.

Ayurvedic care may include herbal preparations, oils, dietary changes, or supplements. These products are not interchangeable: ingredients, strength, purity, and possible medicine interactions can differ. A label such as “natural” does not show that a remedy is suitable for inflamed skin or the delicate lining of the mouth or genitals.

A clinician should first confirm the diagnosis because several rashes and mouth conditions can resemble lichen planus. Medical treatment may aim to settle inflammation, ease itch or soreness, and limit lasting changes.

Show your dermatologist the full ingredient list and tell them about teas, powders, tablets, oils, and prescribed medicines. Do not apply an untested product to broken skin, inside the mouth, or on genital tissue. Stop a new topical product if burning, swelling, blistering, or a spreading rash appears.

Use gentle, fragrance-free skin care and avoid scratching. If a prescribed corticosteroid is part of your plan, follow its site-specific directions rather than replacing or combining it with a remedy without advice.

Arrange assessment for persistent painful mouth sores, trouble eating or swallowing, genital pain, urinary discomfort, scalp hair loss, nail damage, or lesions that heal with scars. Seek urgent help for facial swelling, breathing difficulty, or a widespread blistering reaction after taking or applying a remedy.

Ask which body sites are affected, whether the diagnosis needs confirmation, what changes treatment choice, and how improvement will be monitored. Bring the remedy packaging so the clinician can check specific ingredients and possible interactions.
