Ayurvedic treatment for ulcerative colitis

Ulcerative colitis is long-term inflammation of the lining of the large bowel. It can present with bloody diarrhoea, urgency, abdominal pain and tiredness, with periods when symptoms settle and periods when they flare. Feeling temporarily better does not by itself show that inflammation is controlled.

Clinicians use symptoms, examination and selected blood, stool or bowel tests to judge activity and guide therapy. A complementary remedy has a different role from medicines intended to settle inflammation or maintain remission.

Tell the care team about every powder, tablet, tea and oil you take, including the brand and dose shown on the package. Check for duplicate ingredients and avoid products with unclear labels. Do not use restrictive diets or fasting to manage a flare, as diarrhoea and reduced intake can lead to dehydration and poor nutrition.

Keep taking prescribed medicines as directed and follow the flare plan provided by your team. Record stool frequency, visible blood, pain, temperature, appetite and any new product so changes can be reviewed in context.

Contact your clinical team promptly if diarrhoea or bleeding increases, pain becomes more persistent, fever develops, you cannot maintain fluids or your usual flare plan is not helping. Early review can identify active inflammation, infection, dehydration or a medicine problem.

Seek urgent care for severe or rapidly worsening abdominal pain, a swollen abdomen, repeated vomiting, heavy rectal bleeding, fainting, confusion or marked weakness. Do not delay emergency assessment while trying a new remedy.

Ask how your bowel inflammation is being monitored, what your personal flare plan should include, and whether a proposed remedy could interact with your medicines. It is also useful to clarify which changes in bleeding, bowel frequency, pain or hydration should trigger same-day contact.
