Ayurvedic medicine for ringworm

Ringworm is a contagious fungal infection rather than a worm. Oils or herbal pastes may soothe or irritate the surface without eliminating the fungus, allowing the rash to enlarge or spread to other people.

Ringworm often presents with an itchy, scaly patch that expands outward and may have a more active raised edge. Its appearance varies with body site and skin tone, and eczema or other rashes can resemble it. Steroid-containing combination creams can suppress redness while the fungus continues to spread.

Infection can pass through skin contact and shared towels, clothing, grooming tools or contaminated surfaces. Pets can also develop fungal infection and may need veterinary care when they have suspicious areas of hair loss or scaling.

For a limited skin patch, a pharmacist or clinician can help select a topical antifungal and explain where and how long to apply it. Scalp, nail or extensive infection may require oral antifungal treatment after medical assessment.

Keep affected skin clean and dry, wash hands after touching it, change damp clothing, and do not share towels or razors. Avoid covering the area with homemade preparations or using leftover steroid cream. If you want to use an Ayurvedic product, first show its full ingredient list to a clinician.

Get assessed if the diagnosis is uncertain, the rash involves the scalp, beard or nails, several areas are affected, or suitable antifungal treatment is not helping. Seek prompt care for spreading redness, increasing pain, warmth, pus, fever or facial involvement. Earlier advice is sensible for a young child or anyone with reduced immunity.

Ask whether testing is needed to distinguish fungus from another rash, which antifungal suits the body site, whether household members or pets need assessment, and when you are no longer likely to pass the infection on. Mention every cream already used, including products without a clear label.
