AXA annual health checks: how to prepare

The visit may involve a health history, basic measurements, risk discussion, examination, or selected screening tests. Confirm the exact package, clinic, preparation instructions, and required documents directly with the booking service before attending. A health check is designed for prevention and monitoring; it does not replace an appointment for new or worsening symptoms.

A clinician uses the check to build a picture of your health from your history, family history, medicines, lifestyle, and measurements. Tests are selected according to factors such as age, symptoms, existing conditions, and previous results. More testing is not automatically more useful: each test should have a clear purpose and a plan for interpreting an unexpected result.

Bring identification, booking information, your current medicine and supplement list, relevant reports, and any home readings your clinician requested. Write down recent changes in sleep, mood, weight, exercise tolerance, bowel habits, or menstrual health. Tell the clinic beforehand if you are pregnant, have difficulty fasting, use insulin or other glucose-lowering medicine, or need accessibility support.

Do not fast unless your appointment instructions specifically require it. Continue prescribed medicine unless the treating clinician gives different directions. Before leaving, clarify when results will arrive, who will explain them, and whether follow-up has already been arranged.

Seek urgent medical help for chest pressure, severe breathing difficulty, signs of stroke such as new facial droop or one-sided weakness, fainting, heavy bleeding, or a sudden severe allergic reaction. These symptoms need assessment now rather than at a future preventive visit.

Book a separate clinical consultation for a new lump, persistent pain, unexplained weight change, ongoing fever, or a marked change in physical or mental health. Tell the booking team the symptom so they can direct you to an appropriate service.

Ask what each proposed test is checking, whether preparation is needed, how an abnormal result would be confirmed, and which results should be compared with earlier measurements. If you already manage a long-term condition, ask whether this visit complements or duplicates your usual review.
