Using Auvon TENS unit pads safely

Short answer
Auvon TENS pads work best on clean, dry, intact skin, with secure contact and placement that follows the device instructions for the painful area.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why pad contact matters
An electrode pad spreads the device's electrical pulse over the skin. A pad that is dry, curled, dirty, damaged, or partly detached can concentrate the sensation at an edge and feel sharp or uncomfortable. The adhesive also needs direct skin contact; lotion, sweat, body oil, and dense hair may weaken attachment. Pads are personal-use items because sharing them can transfer skin oils and microorganisms.
Prepare, place, and store the pads
Switch the unit off before connecting, moving, or removing electrodes. Wash and dry the skin, inspect it for cuts or rash, then press the entire adhesive surface down without folds. Follow your model guide or a clinician's diagram rather than placing pads directly over the front or sides of the neck, head, spine, prominent bones, broken skin, or so that current travels across the chest. After use, lift each pad gently by an edge instead of pulling its wire, return it to its liner, and seal it in its storage pouch. Replace pads when they no longer stay flat or stimulation becomes uneven despite proper preparation.
Skin reactions and warning signs
Remove the pads and turn off the unit if you feel burning, stinging, increasing pain, or an unpleasant shock. Mild temporary redness under an electrode can occur, but persistent redness, blistering, swelling, broken skin, or a spreading rash needs medical advice before reuse. Obtain urgent care for chest pain, sudden limb weakness, new severe numbness, or loss of bladder or bowel control; do not use stimulation to delay assessment of these symptoms.
What to clarify before treatment
Show your clinician the exact painful area and ask for a placement pattern that avoids reduced-sensation skin, recent surgical sites, and irritated tissue. Mention implanted electronic devices, heart rhythm problems, epilepsy, pregnancy, adhesive allergies, and any inability to feel heat, touch, or electrical stimulation normally.

Questions people ask
Why does stimulation feel sharp near one pad?
Check that the pad lies flat, remains moist enough to adhere, and has no damaged edge. Turn the unit off before adjusting it, and replace a worn pad if secure contact cannot be restored.
Can I place a pad directly on the painful spot?
Placement depends on the body area and the device instructions. Avoid injured skin and restricted locations, and get a clinician to demonstrate placement when the cause of pain or local sensation is uncertain.
