What should you know about aurora spectral flow cytometry?

It records the full light-emission pattern from fluorescent labels attached to cells, then separates overlapping signals. This can give the laboratory a detailed view of immune and blood-cell features from a limited sample.

A laboratory specialist compares marker patterns, cell size and internal complexity across cell groups. The findings may support classification of a blood or bone-marrow disorder, distinguish cell populations, or help monitor a known condition. The report must be interpreted alongside the blood count, microscope findings, symptoms and other tests. An unusual marker pattern is not a diagnosis by itself.

Ask which sample is needed and how it will be collected. Blood sampling usually needs little preparation, while a bone-marrow or tissue procedure may come with specific instructions about medicines, eating, transport and wound care. Afterward, confirm when the combined report will be discussed and whether earlier samples are available for comparison. Do not change prescribed treatment based on a laboratory phrase without the clinician's interpretation.

The analysis happens in the laboratory and does not create symptoms in the patient. Symptoms can follow the sample-collection procedure. After a marrow or tissue sample, contact the treating team promptly for bleeding that does not stop with firm pressure, increasing redness or swelling, drainage, fever, or pain that is worsening rather than settling. Seek urgent help for trouble breathing, fainting, severe weakness or rapidly increasing bleeding.

Useful questions include: What cell population did the laboratory identify? Which other results support the interpretation? Is the sample adequate for the requested markers? Will this finding change further testing, treatment or monitoring? Ask for unfamiliar marker names to be translated into plain language.
